Titan History
|
In 1980, a small group of enthusiastic hockey parents from Richmond got together to discuss the feasibility of establishing "AA" hockey teams that would represent District 4 in the ODMHL.
After many long hours and meetings, a proposal was sent to District 4 Council who ultimately presented it to the ODMHA Minor Council, and the result was the birth of the Ottawa Valley Titans.
Our first season of operation was 1981/82 and during this season had 4 teams in the ODMHL:Major Peewee, Minor Bantam,Major Bantam and Midget. Players were recruited from Almonte/Pakenham, Osgoode/Rideau, Metcalfe & District, West Carleton, Sittsville, Carleton Place, Richmond & District, Russell, Perth, and Lanark Minor Hockey Associations. This was a trying but rewarding season, which resulted in the decision to persevere, and ultimately grow into the Championship Club we are today.
In 1982, Kanata Minor Hockey joined District 4, adding strength and talent to our fledgling club. In the mid 1980's, the ODMHA developed the "Magenta" region that gave us the opportunity to draw not only from District 4, but Districts 1 and 5 as well. This change made us formidable opponents in the ODMHL.
After participating and studying our program for three years, District 1 decided to take the plunge, and the result was the "Rideau St. Lawrence Kings". This added a new dimension and challenge to the Titans, along with adding a new "AA" club to the ODMHL.
The Titans have proved to be up to the challenge in our 20 year history. We have hosted the Regionals for the Air Canada Cup for Midgets, in 1991 hosted the Canadian Tire Cup (Provincials in Kanata) for Bantams, and in 1995 the Household Cup (Provincials in Arnprior) for Peewee's. Our Bantams, Peewees and Atom teams have consistently dominated the league for the past 8-9 years, and over the past 7 years we have represented the branch at provincial play downs at one, and sometimes two levels. Always ranking high in these tournaments and bringing home many individual and team awards.
We are extremely proud of our club, and most especially the players representing the different minor hockey associations in Districts 4 and 5. We can boast of many successes on the ice, however the successes we are truely proud of are the well balanced and mature young men and women which graduate from our program, going on to college and university scholarships, the OHL, CHL and most recently the NHL. We hope you take the time to review our alumni link, which is always being updated with the latest news on the where about of our Titans graduates.
